Description:
The Program in Human Sexuality, University of Minnesota, seeks candidates for a 100% time Post-Doc Associate position. This position could be either 100% time to conduct research in transgender health and Internet-based HIV prevention or 75% time on research with 25% time being spent on training in the assessment and treatment of a range of sexual disorders.

Goals
Promote growth and skill in research design, analysis and report writing, mentor a future independent sexual health researcher
Build competency in the promotion of sexual health
Provide the most up-to-date training in the assessment and treatment of a variety of sexual health concerns (if there is a clinical component)
Fellows are expected to:

Hone skills in research design, analysis, article writing for peer-reviewed research journals, and the development of new projects and grant applications; area of research specialization will focus on sex, gender, and human sexuality.
If there is a clinical component, the fellow will train in the following clinical specialties with the opportunity to explore additional areas of sexual health depending on interest:
Gender identity issues and concerns
Compulsive Sexual Behavior
Sexual functioning concerns
Work under supervision of qualified experts in these areas.
Requirements:
Applicants must have a PhD in a social science, computer science or public health field. Those interested in combining the research training with a clinical component in the area of sexual health must have a PhD. in psychology and be eligible for licensure as a psychologist in the State of Minnesota. Additional requirements include interest in and/or experience with a) the transgender community; b) quantitative (SPSS, Lisrel) and qualitative (NVIVO) statistical/data analysis; c) writing papers for publication in scientific journals; and d) data collection and participant retention protocols. Applicants should possess comfort with and sensitivity to the subject population, i.e., transgender individuals and their sexual partners, good interpersonal and communication skills, good organizational skills, and an ability to work independently. Excellent computer skills are required with familiarity with Internet-based research preferred. Applicants interested in clinical work must have completed an internship meeting APPIC standards. The ideal candidate for this position is someone whose goal is to pursue an academic career in human sexuality, with an emphasis on research in the areas of sex and gender, transgender health, or sexuality and the Internet.
Training:
As part of the research requirement of the fellowship, fellows meet regularly with an assigned research supervisor and are expected to produce at least one publishable article for each year of their fellowship, in addition to co-authoring additional papers and presentations. Applicants interested in the optional clinical component are expected to provide 5 to 10 hours of direct patient care per week, with 1 hour of individual and additional hours of group supervision and training.

Fellows are evaluated every 6 months. These evaluations provide fellows the opportunity to both give and receive feedback about fellowship progress. Evaluations are conducted in a face-to-face meeting with the fellow's primary supervisor.

Responsibilities:
The Post-Doc Associate will join a multidisciplinary team conducting an
NIH-funded study on HIV prevention targeting the transgender community and work directly under the supervision of Prof. Walter Bockting, PhD, the Principal Investigator. The study will involve a) conducting a nation wide online survey; b) developing an online intervention to promote transgender health; and c) evaluating the online intervention using a randomized control trial. This P&A professional training position is funded for three years. It is annually-renewable based on performance and funding availability.

The position is available immediately. This position is also being posted as a non-post doctoral fellow position. Only one person will be hired.
