The article discusses the research that attempts to explain why gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and queer (GLBTQ) teenagers are an underserved population by libraries in the U.S. The research focuses on the under-representation of the GLBTQ in the abundant library collections in the country. The study used questionnaires as a method for the collection of information about the status of GLBTQ library materials, programming and challenges to the published resources. The survey was conducted in two samplings at various libraries. The literature review and the survey suggest that library materials and services for GLBTQ young adults are substandard.
